Vintage Inspired Berkeley Wedding
One thing that is so fun about wedding season is that you get to travel to all kind of cities near and far! This awesome wedding took to our to Berkeley and we had so much fun! We met Taylor a couple years ago actually and she told us her wedding was a while away because they were doing a lot of it themselves and a lot of DIY touches. Being a DIY bride myself I was excited ot see her vision because from what she told me in our initial couple meetings sounds amazing!
The day was full of joy and happiness, and getting ready with the girls was on a whole new level of fun because of all the sweet babies that were hanging out with us!! We wanted to squish them and squeeze them all!
The couple got ready at Hotel Shattuck Plaza in downtown Berkeley, and it was the perfect start to their day! Not only were the rooms very bright and chic, but the bar downstairs was amaaaazinggg, so we hustled everyone down there before the first look to get some shots inside!
See the gorgeous bouquet?! She made that… U-N-BELIEVE-A-B-L-E! Right?! I think this girl has a future in event coordination if she ever wanted to switch careers!
Also… lets take a minute to talk about this dress… I love this shot below because it really showcases how cool the dress was! It was a linen gown, so as you can see it was light, flowy, and so amazing in person… the texture alone was a showstopper! The dress is from Elizabeth Dye, and after seeing this gown up close, I would definitely want to check out the rest of their collection!
Here is the couples first look, such a sweet moment, and a funny moment at the same time! We decided to do this int he middle of a park and walking trail… so clearly it was busy on a beautiful day like this, but thanks to their trusty bridal party we were able to close off a section of the trail for just long enough for these two to have their moment!
There is always a back and forth about the first look, they are always a great moment to have, but not necessary if you want to go the traditional route! We love giving this moment to our couples and letting them be together, but if you are curious about some of the shots we get without the first look, take a look at this blog about the traditional route!
Then we came into the ceremony, which not only had one officiant, but two!! Their two best friends married them which was such a sweet addition to the day!
Colin and Taylor met 12 years ago in high school! Growing up in Marin they were never that far from each other but finally met in 2006 . Instantly they were smitten and dated for the rest of that year. Over the next 4 years they were separated in distance but connected by the heart. Although they were living on opposite ends of California and going to different colleges they never stayed apart for very long. In 2010 they decided the distance couldn’t keep them apart any longer and made it official. In 2011 they both moved back to the Bay Area, Colin had graduated college and Taylor transferred to SF State. In 2012 they moved in together in San Rafael and soon after that got their gorgeous yellow lab puppy Sadie. Since then their story has taken them from San Rafael, CA to Houston, TX, to San Anselmo and now to Napa, CA. Who knows where they will go next! They have traveled to other countries, raised a happy yellow lab, supported each other through major work changes and built a beautiful life together. In November 2016 Colin and Taylor decided to take a vacation to South East Asia, a major bucket list trip. On their very first day in Vietnam they took a tour to the Ninh Binh province to explore old ruins and the beautiful landscape just outside Hanoi. On top of a mountain overlooking rice fields Colin got down on one knee and asked Taylor to marry him. She said yes! They continued to explore Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and they smiled in delight knowing they would spend the rest of their lives together!
And just as Taylor described, walking into this reception space was gorgeous!! She had her step father help build some of the structures to hang her greenery, and she scoured endless estate sales and ebay sites to find enough vintage goblets to add to each and every table at her wedding!!
We had so much fun with their portrait session, and as you can see in the distance the fog started coming in heavvvvyyyy, so we had to wrap up quickly, even though, Taylor was not afraid to show off the gorgeous low back of her dress in the cold drop in weather!
The rest of the night went off without a hitch, full of laughter and dancing, it was the perfect start to a happy marriage!
This was such a fun night! The wedding was held at The Brazilian Room in Berkeley, and if you are ever looking for your dream photographer dont let miles get in your way, just because we’re Sacramento wedding photographers doesn’t mean we dont love coming to the Bay area and beyond!!
