When you mix a Marin girl with a Santa Fe guy you get an awesome mix, and we had an amazing time working with them over this last year as they prepped for their wedding!! These two are so sweet together, not only did they meet on a blind date, but ended up having the same birthday (which is unreal!!) and it seemed like everything fell into place from there. They are both active and outdoorsy which made their wedding venue the perfect compliment to their personalities, the Marin Art and Garden Center, nestled in the hills and surrounded by natural beauty!
Mackenzie wore a very elegant dress with organic flower straps that were dainty and perfect, and gave her the fairy vibe she was striving for without even trying! Mark had a custom ring made for him from Santa Fe, which we loved, and along side his details he rocked a Whiskey with his brides name on it, definitely something to hold on to!!
These two had their first look in the garden which was the perfect spot! The colors were unbelievable in this place, and the weather was spot on! They told us later that they were so happy that we had talked to them about the first look because they were considering not doing one and were so happy that they were given the extra time and those intimate moments together by choosing to say yes to it! This is why we love first looks, its a moment in the day that is JUST for you two, because trust us… there are not many of those! ;)
Look at that reaction!! Love it! Such a great moment! If you are new to what the “first look” is, take a look at this post we created about it, and why we love them!
As you can see, these two were not shy in front of the camera, between their amazing chemistry and the gorgeous venue, we really couldn’t go wrong!
The aisle was arranged a little different than the typical set up at the venue, they actually moved it away from the standard area and in front of this huge towering Sequoia tree that was brought to the property in the 1800s!
As you can see, that tree is not to be messed around with!! The giant redwood (Sequoiadendron giganteum) was brought from Yosemite Valley as a small tree in the 1880s. The sequoia is unusual with its rounded top and domed-over appearance, associated with thousand-year-old trees. it was a great backdrop!
Vows are another thing that we love about weddings, when we got married we did the traditional vows, because writing your own vows wasnt really a thing back then… looking back I wish we had because its such a great moment to share your love for each other and the unique things you cherish! They are usually heartfelt, a little funny, and sometimes (like below) you get the best man to help you out and throw some fairy dust to add the icing to the cake!
During this ceremony, they had everyone toss rose pedals as the couple came down the aisle! It was such a fun moment… looking back at this day, there sure were a lot of those!! ;)
The details of the day were spot on as well! The florist did an amazing job at choosing natural and organic feeling flowers that really blended well with the venue and colors, and the tables were so cute, they each had a trail as their table number showing the places that the couple loved to explore! The best part though… were the favors, I know often people use candy as a favor, but this couple used M&M’s because their names were Mark and Mackenzie, so not only was it practical, but a cute play on their names, touche!
We had a blast cruising the gardens as the sun went down and enjoying the grounds!
Then of course, the partaaayy! It was a beautiful setting beneath the trees, and the toasts were full of laughter and happiness, you could tell both families were so happy for the unity of these two and it was a pleasure to witness!
The sky was our friend that night, so we snagged them for a quick shot and then let the fun commence! It was a beautiful night, an amazing couple and we love looking back through these vibrant and colorful photos!! Even though we are based as Sacramento wedding photographers, we love our bay area, and love bay area weddings as well!!
